Have a read through some of the inspiring pathways that some of our team has taken to get them to where they are now.
The flexibility is something I really like about KPMG and being able to work around other commitments when the need arises. I also enjoy working with the people in my team and love that we have such an inclusive culture.
I look forward to coming to work each day being surrounded by great people, both to learn from and creating friendships. In my role, I love building relationships with clients and being able to help them with their business. It’s so rewarding when you can make a difference to them and their business.
-Fabienne Pislor. Private Enterprise, Hamilton

I am a full-time mum to a 2 year old and part-time manager working in the Tauranga DDX team and have been with KPMG for over 9 years. Originally from Fiji, I moved to Hamilton 15 years ago and studied at the University of Waikato completing my major in Accounting.
People and culture make a place and it’s so very true for me after having spent 9 years with a great bunch of people here at KPMG. The flexibility provided by KPMG has allowed me to have a balanced lifestyle managing a career as well as spending quality time with my young family.
-Florence Phillips. DDX Enterprise, Tauranga

Since starting my career at KPMG 5 years ago, I have worked with some incredible clients and had such a wide range of experiences. My role in internal audit means that no two days are the same.
I have been involved in shaping how New Zealand businesses operate by providing insights into challenges they face and supported clients as they move into new ways of working. Outside of KPMG I also work as a Group Fitness Instructor, which brings fantastic balance, and often a colleague or two come along!
-Grace Nunn. Risk Consulting, Auckland

After starting my career in the health industry, I decided it was time for a change and enrolled in a Bachelor of Business Analysis at the University of Waikato. Post my studies, I worked in a small business in Hamilton which gave me an insight into how businesses operate and the impacts these businesses have on people.
I was offered a graduate role at KPMG Hamilton a year later and have not looked back. KPMG has provided me with so many great learning opportunities and the culture here is second to none. I love turning up to work every day to work alongside and learn from great mentors while also building on my technical knowledge and building relationships with key clients.
-Hannah Simcock. Private Enterprise, Hamilton

I started my career straight out of university, through a graduate role at KPMG Wellington. I was put into the Risk Consulting team and have been in this team since, though I have spent time working in and with other teams.
I followed quite a ‘linear path’ to get to where I am. I went to university straight out of high school to study a Bachelor of Commerce, applied for a graduate role in Consulting at KPMG in my final year of study and was fortunate enough to be offered one.
I love the variety of work I get to do and that no two days are the same.
I also love the people that I work with, the work I get to do, and that KPMG has a mission to fuel New Zealand’s prosperity. KPMG does a lot of work that is of significance and value to New Zealand, and I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in work like this – most notably, working at MIQ. I find this work extremely rewarding, and the opportunity to contribute value to New Zealand in this way has been an amazing experience.
-Hazel Byrne. Risk Consulting, Wellington

I was lucky enough to intern in the Financial Services Audit team at KPMG. It was an awesome experience and helped me gain a much better understanding of what life is like in the corporate world. I was able to build strong relationships with different people at the firm, opening up opportunities such as my recent move into the Corporate Finance team
-Jordan Stevenson. Deal Advisory, Auckland

I started in the relatively small city of Pietermaritzburg, which is the capital of the KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa. Maritzburg, as the locals call it, is near the famous coastal holiday city of Durban.
KPMG recruited me as an experienced hire in the Hamilton audit team.
I love audit. I find it simultaneously invigorating, stimulating, and enjoyable. The vast variety of clients and people I work with every day is a healthy motivation and driver for me. To add to this, being part of the audit department means being kept up to date with the latest accounting standards, and it helps me to stay relevant in the accounting profession.
Without any doubt, I love it that KPMG has been culturally accepting. From the start, I have been met with great warmth and have received keen cultural awareness from all with whom I have worked. I have had the opportunity to share my heritage openly and freely through music, food, and vernacular. KPMG has subsequently introduced me to Te Reo Māori and educated me on Aotearoa’s history and how I can best be part of fuelling its prosperity.
-Julian Vorster. Audit, Hamilton

I began my accounting career in the Audit team at KPMG Tauranga via the graduate programme. After gaining my Chartered Accountancy I transitioned from Audit to Private Enterprise, which allowed me to further my career but stay within the KPMG family.
KPMG has been supportive in my love to explore new places, allowing me to complete international secondments to Texas and Brussels, take a six-month career break to travel overseas and recently move to Wanaka where I now work remotely.
-Sheree Pudney. DDX Enterprise, Tauranga

I began my career as a graduate at a mid-tier CA firm in Auckland, working my way up in the Tax Advisory team for 3 years. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a restructure in late 2020 and I was one of the unfortunate people to be let go. During my time without a job, I had the opportunity to reflect on what I want to achieve and where I would like to go in my career. I worked hard during that time to gain my CA qualification and was searching for a new opportunity to continue my personal development and gain valuable experience to help me achieve my goals.
When the opportunity to work at KPMG was presented in front of me, I took it without hesitation, and I can say this has been the best decision for my career. I can confidently say that the people, team/firm culture, and the various opportunities to grow is exactly what I wanted. Working at KPMG has been amazing over the last few months and I am very excited for the future.
