We encourage and support our people to give back to their communities, through volunteering, fundraising and leadership, alongside a significant amount of pro bono work, together making a real difference to a diverse number of non-profit organisations and charities.
You can find a link to our Corporate Citizenship Report here for more details on all of initiatives but in brief they can be categorised as follows;
- Proactive Pro Bono - Pro bono work is particularly rewarding – it's an opportunity to apply our professional talents, skills and expertise for the benefit of others. Examples include our involvement with the Springboard Trust in helping to mentor school principals, supporting NZ's future Agribusiness leaders through our work with the MAGS foundation and in the Bay of Plenty working with the Acorn Foundation to assist them with accounting prowess as well as one of our senior leaders acting as Chair of Acorns Board of Trustees.
- Volunteering - Each year, every KPMG employee is given a paid volunteering day – they can use this to spend time helping an organisation of their choice. In addition, our people get involved in a range of different fundraising efforts (and we also love to support them in doing that). Examples include some of our Auckland Team volunteering at the Auckland Zoo, a number of teams volunteering at Eat My Lunch HQ to prepare nutritious lunches for children as well as a whole host of individuals supporting charities or causes close to their heart.
- National Partnerships - KPMG has chosen to focus on Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education & Lifelong learning, as the foundation of our national community strategy. We have partnered with organisations that are doing great work to help unleash the potential of our youth. Included in this has been significant involvement with The Springboard Trust, Manaiakalani Education Trust, and Teach First NZ.
- Local Partnerships - Carrying on from the national focus on youth, KPMG offices have partnered with low-decile schools throughout the country to provide support, fundraising and advice. These partnerships include mentoring of students, Christmas present drops, scholarships, involvement in school trips and helping out in the classroom.
- Sustainability - At KPMG we believe we have an important role to play in addressing environmental challenges both through helping our clients, and by improving our own performance. Our Green Team have introduced a number of initiatives in recent times which have seen us reduce our waste to landfill and our air travel significantly. We’ve also just taken delivery of our first fleet of e-bikes, which will allow us to get around the city much more sustainably.
